Quick Cure To Stain Removal
First, remove the spot as quickly as possible. But here’s the real key that can save you thousands of dollars in carpet replacement and headaches……
Use a wet vac to extract all liquid or moisture in the spill or spot
BEFORE you use a spot remover.
A small carpet spotting machine will work too, but remember to use a vacuum that can handle extracting liquids Once the bulk of the spill or spot is removed, use a neutral detergent spotter (like our Spray and Wipe Cleaner) and gently wipe the spot up. If residue from the detergent remains, pour a cup of water on the area and extract the water with your wet vac. It's really that easy.
This procedure will work on any spill no matter how big or small. Remember to always pre-test the fiber before using any spot remover or water. Some specialty rugs can be ruined by water.
3 Secrets To Quick Stain Removal
Remove it NOW. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to remove. If you cannot remove the stain, call a professional right away.
DO NOT USE Resolve or other high residue products on your area rugs. Use a neutral ph spotting agent that is made for wool. Call us for purchase information.
Use as little moisture as possible with silk, sisal, cotton, and grass rugs. For these, apply a spotter to a cloth and gently dab the stain.
CAUTION!
Some area rugs have a very unstable dye and can be easily ruined. Always pre-test any solution on the rug before attempting spot removal.
CLEANING UP SPILLS ISN'T HARD...
IF YOU ACT FAST
"Blotting" and "applying" are the basic steps of any carpet cleanup. Start by blotting up the spill using clean white absorbent materials like terry cloth or paper towels. Work from the outer edge to the center. Keep turning or replacing the towel so a fresh surface is always being applied to the carpet. Gently scrape up solids with the edge of a spoon.
While you work, keep an eye on the towel. As long as yo are getting the color of the spill on the towel, you are making progress. Keep blotting until you are not getting any more transfer to your towel. NEVER RUB! Rubbing can fuzz or distort carpet fibers, as well as spread the stain.
Before applying anything, try to identify the source of the stain. Different stains require different cleaning procedures. Always pretest in an inconspicuous spot any cleaning solution you are going to use. Without over-wetting, apply a retail spotting agent or the solutions we recommend here. Use clean white unprinted materials.
NEVER USE ALL-PURPOSE SPRAY CLEANERS, BLEACH, OR ALKALINE DETERGENTS - YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR CARPETING.
When you have cleaned up and rinsed as best you can, get a thickness of fresh towels. Place them on the spot and put a weight on top of it, like a glass or ceramic dish. This will work as a poultice and help draw out more of the spot.
REGULAR THOROUGH VACUUMING
The most important thing you can do to keep your carpet looking great is to vacuum it. Do this thoroughly and regularly, especially in high traffic areas.
For best results, use a vacuum with a beater bar or rotating brush and plenty of suction. Change bags and filter routinely, and keep recovery tanks clean. Studies show that even a well maintained vacuum can lose 80% of its "pick up ability" when the bag reaches 25% full.
Why is vacuuming so important? Because most of the "dirt" found in our carpets is tracked in by our pets and us. This insoluble "dry particle soil" consisting of mostly sand, clay and quartz is easily removed through regular vacuuming. If this dry soil is left to build up underfoot, the grit constantly rubs against your carpet fibers like sandpaper. This grit removes the stain resistant coating on the fibers and can permanently scratch the fibers' smooth surface, dulling the carpets color.
Healthy indoor air quality is another good reason to vacuum and clean regularly. Carpeting is beautiful and beneficial, but it also collects pollutants very efficiently. This unwanted material "filters" into our carpets. Without regular cleaning, carpets can become saturated with contaminants and start "spilling" it back into our indoor environment. We end up breathing higher concentrations of these unhealthy pollutants.
